Bee Plus Detroit is a student organization that fosters education on the importance of bees within the community and their impact on the public health of Detroit. We build urban bee farms with recycled materials to prevent diminishing bee populations in the city. Through these efforts, we will help increase food security by promoting agricultural growth and biodiversity.
Detroit has 15,000 acres of vacant land that can be used to build apiaries to prevent the diminishing bee populations in the city. These lands can also be used as a point of beautification to bring community and engagement to areas that have experienced blight and dilapidation throughout Detroit’s history. Our first objective is to establish a connection with Wayne State’s campus to engage the student community in our efforts to prevent the diminishing bee populations. By providing opportunities for community engagement, service-learning, and city revitalization, we hope to change the false perceptions around bees and empower individuals to create more sustainable initiatives.
Help Bee Plus Detroit expand our educational efforts to the larger Detroit community in spring 2021, including educational workshops, harvesting and building bee farms, by making a gift today.
